Captain Denmark is a decadent superhero, he drinks and smokes, hits on girls… He lost most of his superpowers, but he insists on wearing his suit in memory of the good old days. Captain Denmark is originally an immigrant in Denmark, who one day got the ability to become this incredible man rescueing Danes in danger, innocent children, kind-hearted men and pretty women. He contributed a great deal in giving a better image to the immigrant community in Denmark.

Commedia castigat ridendo mores. Geniuses like Molière or Charles Chaplin had understood the power of comedy.

This fantasy tale inspired from the famous Marvel comics (especially from “Captain America”), which fed my imagination as child, has the intention to express humour, poetics and politics, all in one, and de-dramatize the phenomenon of immigration and cultural exchange between Danes and their immigrants. Denmark has shown through its political choices in the recent years a certain angst over losing its national identity, and has therefore reinforced immigration laws, like in many other western countries. I experienced many smiles on the lips of the people encountered during my performance, Danes and foreigners living in Copenhagen. It is a positive sign, which will lead me to more performances in the future. Despite the loss of most of his superpowers, Captain Denmark has kept a good heart and has therefore still an enormous potential in bringing together people from different origins, and hopefully create a bit more curiosity and understanding between Denmark’s different social communities.

Live visual performance along with german electro act Audiotrucs (Berlin), saturday the 23rd of august 2008. Here under a music video based on photographic stop-frame animations projected live during the VJ show together with the nice german guys from Audiotrucs, Arno & Toni (video 4:55).
